Well, I believe the theme song changed over the years. If you go back to that website and click on S in the index to the side, you can scroll down and listen to about 8 different versions of the Smurfs song. I listened to ALL of them before picking those two. It's true that only one of them sounded like the one we both remembered growing up.
Well, honestly, the two versions you posted sounded exactly alike to me. But I recognized the theme song from Season 8 and First Broadcast Closing the most. I can picture right where Gargamel comes in. And I liked the Techno Remix the best. (Probably because like most I positively hated the Smurfs. :-) They just seem to be *everywhere*- there's no escape!
Grr. The second link was supposed to go to the techo remix! I didn't realize it hadn't worked. I've updated that now - I'm glad you mentioned it!
I actually watched the smurfs and didn't hate them. Jeremy has about 40 of the figurines still that he got as a kid. I think I only ever got one of the figurines. =)
I think that's our age difference. I was ten when they came on American TV, but at that point we were only allowed 1/2 an hour of TV a week, so natch I chose the Superfriends. By the time they got popular I was in 8th/9th grade, and so not into stuff like that. Much preferred Thundar the Barbarian, the Herculoids, Thundercats, and Transformers.
Thundarr and the Herculoids! I think I just slipped back into childhood Nirvana! Outside of my brother and me, I didn't think anyone watched those two shows.
The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction!
[Cue hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis]
Man's civilization is cast in ruin!
Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...
A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil.
I was surprised to learn the Herculoids was originally from the late 60s. I always thought of it as something from the early 80s, but that must have been in reruns at the time.
This is the blog formerly known as “Northwest Meets Midwest,” where I shared about the absurdities and adventures of living in the Midwest (having moved here from the Northwest). But really, this blog has been more and more a story of how we’ve fallen into urban farming and homesteading. So read on and enjoy our adventures in canning, preserving, mushroom-growing, local/organic fanaticism, chicken raising, designing and constructing, sewing, and attempting a little self-sufficiency in our corner of Minneapolis.

He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!
