This last one is hanging off our house and as you can see it's probably 7 or 8 feet long. I could see it easily while sitting by the windows on that side of the house. There was another, much larger one at the front of the house but it came off with an almighty crash a week or two ago. These icicles keep forming, breaking off, then reforming. I think they are quite beautiful.
very impressive. we had some at the house in Maryland and the boys next door requested permission to break them off and use them as swords or jousting sticks or something. Don't stand under them, I wouldn't want you impaled by a falling icicle.
I don't often watch Grey's Anatomy, but one of the few episodes I saw illustrated how awful it is in accurately portraying Seattle- even worse than Frasier was. One of the main characters gets stabbed by a falling icicle, about the size of what you showed here. She survives the stomach wound, but of course, we know that you never get something in Seattle remotely of that size.
Wow. The improbability of having an icicle break off and land in your stomach is probably just about as high as having an icicle that big in Seattle! People love to exaggerate though.
I did have a picture of Jeremy standing under the big icicle, but I didn't post it. The dog was out in the yard when the one in the front fell off. Freaked her out a bit.
The one in back actually fell off the day after I took all these pics. I don't think I can get both hands all the way around the top part.
I just came back from a series of lectures, one of which was about dog emotions, and how similar they often are to those of humans. When they're scared, their eyes get really big and white, their lips move back, and their head moves back- just like us. Your dog do that?
